The next-generation science standards—scientific ideas that all students should learn by the time they graduate from high school—include a cross-cutting focus on cause and effect. As such, teaching causality is something that teachers are thinking about and trying to introduce in different ways.
Tina Grotzer is an Associate Professor at Harvard Graduate School of Education who has developed resources to teach causality. In this video, Dr. Grotzer talks about the Causal Patterns in Science series, which shows teachers how to teach the causal patterns embedded in science curricula so that students emerge with a deeper understanding.
Specifically, she speaks about resources that focus on teaching causality as it relates to discrete topics in physics and biology.
